Shifting organizations from trauma-informed care to holistic--centered strategies and approaches

  • A human-Centered approach is holistic, involving culture, recognizing that the personal is political, and collective healing. This approach emphasizes the ways in which trauma and healing are experienced collectively. Human-centered engagement expands how we think about trauma as an isolated experience and offers a salutogenic approach to restore well-being.

  • Serving clients with intensive needs requires practical solutions that both restore well-being for the client and help staff build the capacity to sustain in doing the work. Adopting a human-centered approach can help staff to have greater impact, serve with a purpose, and feel as if they are engaged in meaningful work.

  • Organizations that work with individuals with intensive needs tend to be underfunded, under-resourced, and overwhelmed. Organizations, too, need to be able to sustain. This requires systems, policies, and practices that promote human-centered approaches and inspire the mission and vision of the organization.
